SolarCam T2 zoom starts with two separate 3K camera views: a wide view of the surrounding area and a closer view from a fixed telephoto lens. What the Wide and Telephoto Lenses Show
The wide lens shows the surrounding activity
The wide view shows more of your driveway or yard in the same picture. You can see someone walking through the gate, passing a parked car, and heading toward your front door.
For example, a close-up of a delivery driver shows the person and parcel. The wide view also shows the van in the driveway and where the driver leaves the package. With both views on screen, you can follow the delivery and look at the smaller details.
The telephoto lens gives distant subjects more of the frame
SolarCam T2’s fixed 8 mm telephoto lens captures a narrower area. A subject within that area appears larger in its native 3K frame than in the wide frame. The telephoto feed is captured separately; it is not cut out of the wide image.
For example, a person near the far end of a driveway can occupy a small part of the wide scene. The telephoto view gives you a closer starting image for examining their clothing or what they are carrying. Both feeds are 3K, but they distribute that resolution across different amounts of the scene.
Make sure the telephoto view includes the area you want to see more clearly. A person at the far edge of the wide view is outside the telephoto frame. The telephoto view is most useful when you aim it at an important area, such as a gate.
Digital Zoom Makes Details Easier to See on Your Phone
Even a clear 3K image can be hard to inspect on a small phone screen. Digital zoom makes part of the picture bigger, so it’s easier to see what someone is holding or take a closer look at an object beside your car.
SolarCam T2 combines its wide and fixed telephoto lenses with digital enlargement in a 1–8× hybrid zoom system. You can enlarge either feed. The telephoto view starts closer to a distant subject, and digital zoom lets that person or object fill more of your phone screen.
Digital zoom enlarges the detail the camera has already captured. It makes that detail easier to see, but it also enlarges any blur in the original image. Use enough zoom to see comfortably; increasing it further won’t reveal detail missing from the recording.
The 1–8× figure describes the hybrid system. T2 does not use a single lens that mechanically changes focal length through that range, so it should not be read as an 8× optical-zoom specification.

Why Having Both Views Helps During Tracking
T2 can follow a person or vehicle while showing both camera views together. The wide view gives the camera more area to watch for movement, so someone entering from the side can be visible before they reach the telephoto frame. This makes it more likely that the wide view shows their arrival while the camera turns to center and follow them.
While T2 follows someone beside your car, the telephoto view shows that person more closely, including their clothing and what they’re carrying. The wide view can also show a second person walking over or a dog running into the yard. You get a closer look at the main person and a better picture of what’s happening around them.
The wide view becomes especially useful when someone walks close to the camera. In a telephoto-only view, they fill more of the frame, and a small movement can quickly take them out of it. The image can feel jumpy as the camera follows them, with little of the yard left visible.
Having the wide view alongside it keeps more of the person and nearby area on screen. It’s easier to follow what they’re doing, even when they move out of the closer telephoto view.
Check That You Can See the Places You Care About
When you position T2, check the places you want to keep an eye on: your parked car, gate, or the space outside the garage. The wide view should show those places and the nearby driveway or yard. Aim the telephoto view at the place where you want a closer look.
Ask someone to walk through the gate or stand beside your car, then look at a short recording. Check whether you can see where they went and what they’re carrying. A branch across their face or a parked vehicle blocking the gate is a reason to adjust the camera’s position.
Check another recording after dark with your usual outdoor lights. Look at a person walking, not just an empty driveway. If the details you care about are hard to see, try a closer camera position or better lighting and check again.
