4K matters for one specific thing: how far away you can still make out a face or a number plate. At 2K a person is identifiable across a porch; at 4K they are still identifiable across a driveway. If your camera has to watch a wide area rather than a doorway, that is the whole argument.

Resolution only helps if the light does
A 4K sensor in the dark records four times as many pixels of noise. What turns resolution into usable detail after sunset is colour night vision, and that needs light — either ambient or from the camera's own spotlight. The T2 Ultra models pair 4K with colour night vision for exactly this reason; a 4K camera with infrared-only night vision gives you a very sharp grey silhouette.
If lighting the area is the priority, see security cameras with lights.
4K, storage and what you keep
Higher resolution means larger files, so a given amount of local storage holds fewer days at 4K than at 2K. The systems on this page state their capacity: SolarCam T2 Ultra holds 90 days of local storage on the hub. That is the number to compare, not the resolution on its own.
There is no subscription on any of these — the storage is in your house.
When 2K is the better buy
For a doorway, a porch or a single-car driveway, 2K already resolves faces at that distance, and the money is better spent on 360° coverage or a second camera. 4K earns its place on long driveways, wide gardens, and anywhere one camera has to cover ground a person could cross in several seconds.
